ABOUT JADE METAL WORKS
OUR STORY
Jade Metal Works is a fabrication and welding company that was built from the ground up by 2 Christian brothers, James & Derek Thalen. They are from a family of entrepreneurs and are both passionate about welding, fabrication, and creating practical solutions that last.
After years of both working in the industry — often late nights, early mornings, and long days on job sites, they decided to put that time into building something of their own. They began discussions Summer of 2025 and from there slowly​ started with small side projects and repairs. A few months later they officially launched their own business, Jade Metal Works, operating out of Chilliwack, BC.
Jade Metal Works is founded on 3 core values, Genuine Integrity, Adaptability and a passionate Drive to bring efficiency to every project. These core values are based on James and Derek's commitment to their Christian faith. This is the motivation behind all their decision making, whether in work or in their life in general.
DEREK THALEN
Derek Thalen is a Red Seal Metal Fabricator, but metal isn't his only interest. He's always had a strategic mindset and is quick with numbers, so starting his own business was his long term goal.
Outside of the workshop, Derek spends lots of time studying. He has a particular interest in investing and financial history, and loves learning how companies have been built and run over the decades. He loves being able to apply this information to his own business now, building something that will last.
Derek recently married his wife, Caitlyn and the two are enjoying this new chapter in their life together. When he's not working or studying, Derek loves to spend time with his family and friends.
JAMES THALEN
James Thalen is a Red Seal Millwright with over 6 years of experience in the trades. He spent many years with the same company, working his way up to foreman and developing a passion for tackling new projects, solving problems, and finding practical solutions.
Growing up, James always had a passion for mechanics, putting his skills to work rebuilding his old Toyota pickup. Adventurous and fearless by nature, taking the leap to start Jade Metal Works felt like a natural next step.
James is a family man through and through. He’s been married to his wife, Ashley, for almost two years, and together they recently welcomed their first child, Alexis. Outside of work, he enjoys being a dad, tinkering around his recently renovated home, and spending time with his family.
